Albert Joseph Wallace
Albert Joseph Wallace (born February 11, 1853 in Ontario , Province of Canada , † February 23, 1939 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1915 he was lieutenant governor of the state of California.
Career
In 1886, Albert Wallace came to Pasadena , California with his brother , where he worked in the real estate business. Twelve years later he moved to Los Angeles, where he started several oil companies. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1908 and 1910 he sat on the local city council, where he headed the finance committee. Wallace was also a member of the abstinence movement . From 1895 he was a curator at the University of Southern California . From 1924 to 1927 he was the chairman of the board of trustees.
In 1910, Wallace was elected lieutenant governor of California alongside Hiram Johnson . He held this office between 1911 and 1915. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1920 he ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primary for the US Senate . In 1924 he was a substitute delegate to the Republican National Convention , on which President Calvin Coolidge was nominated for re-election. He died on February 23, 1939 in Los Angeles, where he was also buried.
