John Daggett

John Daggett (born May 9, 1833 in Newark , New York , †  August 30, 1919 in Siskiyou County , California ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he was lieutenant governor of the state of California.

Career

Around 1852 John Daggett came to California with his brother David, where he worked in the mining business. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1859 and 1861 and again from 1881 to 1883 he was a member of the California State Assembly .

In 1882, Daggett was elected Lieutenant Governor of California alongside George Stoneman . He held this office between 1883 and 1887. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . From 1893 to 1897 he headed the mint in San Francisco . Then he was back in the mining business. He died on August 30, 1919. The town of Daggett was named after him.
