Tim N. Machin

Timothy N. "Tim" Machin (born August 1822 in New York , †  December 20, 1905 in Oakland , California ) was an American politician . Between 1863 and 1867 he was lieutenant governor of the state of California.

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, Tim Machin began working in this profession in Monoville, California in the early 1850s . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He was a member of the California State Assembly in 1862 and 1863 , of which he was president in 1863. As a loyal supporter of the Union, he campaigned vehemently for its cause during the civil war .

In 1863 Machin was elected Lieutenant Governor of California alongside Frederick Low . He held this office between 1863 and 1867. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He also ran the San Quentin State Prison . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, he worked in the real estate industry. He had an office in San Francisco until his death . He died in Oakland on December 20, 1905.
