John Pérez (2011)

John A. Pérez (born September 28, 1969 ) is an American politician .

Life

Pérez, who came from a Mexican Catholic immigrant family, studied at the University of California at Berkeley . After graduating, he worked for the United Food and Commercial Workers union in California for seven years . Peréz is a member of the Democratic Party . In December 2008 he became a member of the California State Assembly , replacing Fabian Núñez in his constituency south of Los Angeles . In March 2010 he succeeded Karen Bass as speaker of this Chamber of Parliament. Pérez lives openly gay in Los Angeles .
