Frederick F. Houser

Frederick Francis Houser (born November 14, 1904 in Los Angeles , California - †  December 25, 1989 ) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1947 he was lieutenant governor of the state of California.

Career

Frederick Houser, the son of a judge, graduated from Garfield Grammar School and then Alhambra High School in 1922 . Until 1926 he studied at the University of California in Los Angeles. After a subsequent law degree at Harvard University and his admission to the bar in 1930, he began to work in this profession in Los Angeles and then in Alhambra . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1931 and 1933 he was a member of the California State Assembly . In 1932, 1934, and 1936 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US House of Representatives . From 1939 to 1943 he was again a member of the state parliament.

In 1942, Houser was elected Lieutenant Governor of California alongside Earl Warren . He held this office between 1943 and 1947. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1944 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . From 1946 he was a judge on the Superior Court of his state. Since 1942, he also served as director of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Alhambra . He was also a member of numerous other associations and organizations. For some time he taught political science at Harvard. He died on December 25, 1989.
