Pablo de la Guerra (born November 29, 1819 in Santa Barbara , California , Mexico , †  February 5, 1874 in Santa Barbara, California ) was an American politician . In 1861 and 1862 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of California.

Career

Pablo de la Guerra attended a Catholic school in Monterey . He then embarked on a political career. In 1838 he began working for the local Mexican Customs Administration in Monterey. In 1849 he was a member of the constituent assembly of the future US state California. Between 1851 and 1861 he was a member of the California Senate , whose President Pro Tempore he became in 1861.

Since the office of lieutenant governor has been exercised by the president of the Senate since the resignation of Governor Milton Latham and the promotion of then lieutenant governor John G. Downey to governor, it now fell to Pablo de la Guerra, who acted as provisional until 1862. He was deputy governor and official chairman of the state senate. As acting Lieutenant Governor, he replaced Isaac N. Quinn . After the end of his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, he served from 1863 to 1873 as a district judge for the 17th District Court of California. He died on February 5, 1874 in his hometown of Santa Barbara.
