William Holden

William Holden († after 1882) was an American politician . Between 1867 and 1871 he was lieutenant governor of the state of California .

Career

The life dates of William Holden are not known. Since March 4, 1850, he was a resident of California. He had previously crossed the prairies and the Rocky Mountains from Missouri . For two years he worked in the local mines in Mariposa . Then he settled in Stanislaus County . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1857 and 1883 he was a member of the California State Assembly on several occasions . In the meantime he was also a member of the State Senate . In 1863 he served as a district judge in Mendocino County for 18 months .

In 1866, Holden was elected Lieutenant Governor of California alongside Henry Huntly Haight . He held this office between 1867 and 1871. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. During this time he introduced numerous bills. He also reformed his state's land registry . After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he continued his political career. From 1881 to 1883 he was a member of the State Assembly for the last time . After that his track is lost.
