HL Carnahan

Herschel L. "H. L. “Carnahan (born August 31, 1879 in Aledo , Illinois , †  March 31, 1941 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1928 and 1931 he was lieutenant governor of the state of California.

Career

In 1896, H. L. Carnahan graduated from Monmouth College in his home state of Illinois. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1904, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1920 he was a substitute delegate to the Republican National Convention , where Warren G. Harding was nominated as a presidential candidate. In the meantime he had moved to California, where he held a number of local offices.

After the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Buron Fitts , Carnahan was named his successor. He held this office between 1928 and the regular end of the term in 1931. He was Deputy Governor C. C. Young and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1931, Carnahan became his state's Building and Loan Commissioner . Otherwise he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on March 31, 1941 in a Los Angeles hospital from a gunshot wound he self-inflicted.
