André Beaudin

André Gustave Beaudin (born February 3, 1895 in Mennecy , Île-de-France , † June 6, 1979 in Paris ) was a French painter, draftsman, graphic artist and sculptor.

Life

André Beaudin studied art from 1911 to 1915 at what is now the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris in Paris. He was drafted into military service in World War I that year . Then he started painting. In 1922 he had close contact with Juan Gris . Under his influence, his early works were inspired by Henri Matisse .

In the late 1920s, André Beaudin was discovered and promoted by the art critic and publicist Tériade . His work during this time was in the expressions of Cubism . In the 1940s André Beaudin was one of the most important representatives of the “ École de Paris ” (“Paris School”).

In the 1950s, his painting developed from the more round, curvy forms to pictorial works with angled, dynamic, geometric design language. He took his subjects from everyday life and impressions from his surroundings. He painted nudes ; “Games in the Forest”; Animals such as horses, cows and birds. All motifs are reduced to their essence in the picture. In addition to his paintings and drawings, Beaudin made sculptures and ceramics and designed wall decorations.

His works received international attention and were exhibited in many countries. André Beaudin was a participant in documenta I (1955) and documenta II (1959) in Kassel . Beaudin's prints are now owned by the Nantes Art Museum , the Lille Art Museum and the Musée de Grenoble .

He was married to Suzanne Roger.

From June 13 to October 15, 2007, numerous works by him were shown in a (second) retrospective in Belfort . Some of his works are on permanent display in Belfort at the Donation Maurice Jardot art museum .
