Starting with classical modernism, numerous works by non-French artists are also represented, and American artists have also been represented in the art since the 1960s. An extensive group of works by Henri Matisse is outstanding , including Interieur aux aubergines (1911), one of his groundbreaking, large-format interior pictures.
