Viry-Châtillon is a city in France , 20 kilometers south of Paris in the Essonne department . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Évry and has 31,093 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). It lies on the Seine , where a tributary of the Orge River also flows into the Seine.

The first airfield in France was opened in Viry-Châtillon on April 1, 1909.

Erftstadt is a twin town .
