Jurij Mihevec

Jurij Mihevec (also: Georg Micheuz ) (born March 22, 1805 in Laibach ; † August 21, 1882 in Mennecy ) was a Slovenian composer who first worked in Vienna and then in France.

Life

Mihevec studied law in Vienna and also trained musically. During this time he met Ludwig van Beethoven and remained on friendly terms with him until his death. From 1840 to 1842 he was a music teacher in Hungary, after which he lived as a composer and pianist in Paris . He composed more than two hundred and fifty piano works - including piano concertos, variations, fantasies and transcriptions - as well as songs and singspiele.
