The Hurepoix is a landscape in the Ile-de-France in France and a former province at the time of the Ancien Régime . It is mainly located in what is now the Essonne department , but also partly in the Yvelines , Hauts-de-Seine and Val-de-Marne departments . The historic capital of the Hurepoix is Dourdan , but the modern urban center is Evry .

The Hurepoix is bordered to the north by Paris, to the west by the Rambouillet forest , to the east by the Seine , the forests of Fontainebleau in Gâtinais and Sénart in Brie , and to the south by the plains of the Beauce . The bottom of the Hurepoix consists of marl , sand and clay minerals . From the time when the Paris basin was covered by the sea, loess residues exist on some plateaus .

The landscape name Hurepoix occurs (also as Hérupe ) in French literature of the 13th century and here as the name for Franconian Neustria between the Seine and Loire . On the other hand, the Hurepoix does not appear in political reality, is only mentioned from this time as archdeaconate of the Archdiocese of Paris , without any geographical clarification being discernible. What is certain is that the Hurepoix comprised part of the city of Paris south of the Seine and began at the Petit Pont , that is to say on the eastern side of the Cardo of Paris , which led to this part of the city also being called the Hurepoix.

The main cities of the Hurepoix are:
