Savigny-sur-Orge is a commune in France .
geography
Savigny-sur-Orge is on the Orge and Yvette rivers , 20 kilometers south of central Paris . It is the main town ( chief lieu ) of the canton of the same name in the Essonne department .
Neighboring municipalities are Paray-Vieille-Poste in the north, Athis-Mons in the northeast, Juvisy-sur-Orge in the east, Viry-Châtillon in the southeast, Villemoisson-sur-Orge and Morsang-sur-Orge in the south, Épinay-sur-Orge in the Southwest, Longjumeau to the west and Morangis to the northwest.
Residents
The community has 36,533 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). They call themselves Savinien .

history
On December 12, 1946, a serious railway accident occurred near Savigny-sur-Orge when two trains collided. 31 people died and 50 were also injured.

The D25 département road with a connection to the A6 car route in the southwest runs through the city .
Savigny-sur-Orge is served by the RER C rapid transit line.
