history
Owner of the Seigneurie Chilly at the beginning of the 17th century was Martin Ruzé († 1613), Seigneur de Beaulieu, State Secretary under the Kings Henry III. , Heinrich IV. And Ludwig XIII. who bought Chilly (or Chailly as it was then called) from Michel Gaillard at the end of the 16th century . In the absence of descendants, he bequeathed Chilly and Longjumeau to his great-nephew Antoine Coiffier d'Effiat, who had to take over the family name of his great-uncle. He became Marshal of France in 1631 . His successors in Chilly were his son Martin and his grandson Antoine.
At the beginning of the 18th century the coiffiers Ruzé d'Effiat went out and their inheritance was claimed by the cousin of the last owner, Paul-Jules de Mazarin. He was a son of Armand-Charles de La Porte, who through his marriage to Jules Mazarin's niece , Hortense Mancini , became the cardinal's heir. The Ducs de Mazarin go back to him as well as the extension of the place name to Chilly-Mazarin in 1822. One of his descendants, Marie-Louise Félicité d'Aumont , Duchesse de Mazarin, married Honoré Grimaldi , Prince of Monaco in 1777 . Even today, the title of Marquis de Chilly is one of the prince's titles.
