Jean Philippe François d'Orléans (born August 28, 1702 in Chilly-Mazarin , † June 16, 1748 in Paris ), called "le chevalier d'Orléans".

Jean Philippe was the illegitimate son , but legitimized by his father in 1706, of the French regent and prince of the blood Philip of Orléans and his lover Marie Louise Madeleine Victoire Le Bel de La Boissière, comtesse d'Argenton (* around 1684; † March 4, 1748 in Paris ).

In order to meet his worldly needs, he was given the Hautvillers Abbey early on .

He was appointed General of the French Galleys of the Sovereign Order of Malta in June 1718 . He took this rank, which had become a mere honorary title over the years, very seriously and set out to learn navigation and shipping. Funds were awarded to him to restore the fleet and build new ships. However, the galley corps was abolished three years after his death.

He was also raised to the rank of Grand Prior of the Order of Malta in France. He used his residence in the Paris Temple for extravagant festivities.

From his love affair with Amable Gabrielle de Noailles (* 1706 , † 1742 ), daughter of Adrien-Maurice de Noailles , the daughter Amable Angélique de Villars (born March 18, 1723 - † September 16, 1771 in Versailles ) comes from , who he did in 1744 with Guy Félix Pignatelli, comte d'Egmont, prince de Gavre (born November 5, 1720 - † July 3, 1753 ) married.

He died in Paris in 1748, leaving a debt of over 1 million livres .
