Palaiseau is a French commune with 35,514 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and the sub-prefecture (sous-préfecture) of the arrondissement of the same name in the Essonne department , which borders Paris to the south. The Yvette flows through the city .
The place belongs to the immediate southwestern catchment area of the capital and is a preferred residential area.
education
Three major technical colleges ( Grandes écoles ) have their headquarters in Palaiseau: the École polytechnique , the ENSTA ParisTech (École nationale supérieure de techniques avancées) and the Institut d'Optique Graduate School .
economy
With the company “Solems”, a growth-oriented high-tech company has set up shop here , specializing primarily in solar cells and thin-film modules made of amorphous silicon as well as light sensors and photovoltaic island systems.
traffic
Palaiseau is connected to public transport in the greater Paris area with three stations on the S-Bahn-like suburban railway line RER B. In neighboring Massy is the Massy-Palaiseau station , a double station for the RER B and RER C routes . Right next to it is the Massy TGV station , which offers a connection to the French high-speed train system. The Autoroute A10 (L'Aquitaine) also runs through the city with a junction at the Massy-Palaiseau train station.
