Sylvain Garant

Sylvain François Garant (born June 29, 1925 in Palaiseau , † June 6, 1993 in Clearwater ) was a French rally and circuit racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Sylvain Garant began his career as a rally driver in the early 1960s and switched to the circuit in 1962. He celebrated his first success in the same year at the Albi Grand Prix on the Circuit des Planques , when he finished third overall behind Henri Oreiller ( Ferrari 250 GT SWB ) and Edgar Berney (also in a Ferrari 250 GT) in a Jaguar E-Type . In addition to his regular appearances in the French rally championship , he celebrated further successes on the circuit. In 1964 he finished third at the Coupe du Salon and won the Coupes de Vitesse a year later . Both races took place on the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry ; The emergency vehicle in both cases was a Ferrari 250 GTO .

1968 he went on a Porsche 911S of the Scuderia Filipinetti in the World Sportscar Championship at the start and drove their Ferrari 250LM in sportscar race without World Championship status. In the same year he made his debut at the Le Mans 24-hour race in the Scuderia's Corvette C3 . His best placement at Le Mans, where he started four times, was 13th overall in 1972 . This result, achieved with Jürgen Barth and Michael Keyser in the Porsche 911S, was victory in the GTS class up to 2.5-liter displacement.

In 1969 he was tenth overall at the Daytona 24-hour race and 13th in the Sebring 12-hour race in 1968 .
