Michael Keyser (born October 5, 1947 in Baltimore ) is a retired American racing car driver , filmmaker , photographer , author and journalist .

Career in the media world

After finishing school, Michael Keyser worked as a reporter for The Baltimore Sun in the early 1960s . From 1969 he also worked as a photographer and filmmaker. He made the film The Speed ​​Merchants in 1972 and brought out a book with the same title in 1973. Another of his publications, A French Kiss With Death - Steve McQueen and the Making of Le Mans , deals with the genesis of Steve McQueen's Le Mans film .

Career in motorsport

Between 1971 and 1980 Keyser was active in international GT and sports car racing . He celebrated seven overall and six class wins in a total of 86 race starts. He celebrated his first success in the 6-hour race of Mid-Ohio in 1972 , a race in the IMSA GT series that year. His partner in the Porsche 911S was Bob Beasley .
