1972 Watkins Glen 6 Hours
The 1972 Watkins Glen 6 Hours , also 6-Hours and The Can-Am, The Glen (Six Hours of Endurance for The World Championship of Manufacturers), Watkins Glen , took place in Watkins Glen on July 22nd and was the eleventh round of the sports car world championship this year.
The race
The 6-hour race at Watkins Glen was the last world championship run in 1972. Ferrari had long been the brand world champion; the Scuderia had won nine of the ten championship races so far. Only the 24-hour race at Le Mans failed to achieve overall victory, where Matra won with the MS670 ; at the wheel Henri Pescarolo and Graham Hill . However, Ferrari had decided not to compete there.
Alfa Romeo was also not at the start in Watkins Glen , so Ferrari was able to celebrate a one-two victory with the 312PB . Mario Andretti and Jacky Ickx won ahead of their teammates Ronnie Peterson and Tim Schenken .
