Brands Hatch 1000km race 1972
The 1972 Brands Hatch 1000 km race , also known as the BOAC 1000 Kilometers World Championship Sports Car Race, Brands Hatch , took place on April 16 at the Brands Hatch circuit and was the fourth round of the World Sports Car Championship that year.
The race
At the 1000 km race at Brands Hatch, the duel between Ferrari and Alfa Romeo in the 1972 World Sports Car Championship was continued. In qualifying, Clay Regazzoni achieved the fastest training time in a factory Ferrari 312PB with a time of 1.26.600 minutes. The best-placed Alfa Romeo was the T33 / TT / 3 driven by Peter Revson and Rolf Stommelen in fourth place; the gap to the fastest Ferrari was only 1.3 seconds.
After a tight race at the beginning, the factory Ferrari prevailed again in the end. Jacky Ickx and Mario Andretti won ahead of their teammates Ronnie Peterson and Tim Schenken , as well as the Alfa Romeo crews Revson / Stommelen and Elford / de Adamich .
