Christopher "Chris" Craft (born November 17, 1939 in Porthleven ) is a former English racing driver .
Career
Chris Craft made his career primarily as a long-distance pilot. As a partner to his compatriot Alain de Cadenet , he competed several times in the Le Mans 24-hour race . Between 1971 and 1984 he competed a total of 14 times in the Sarthe department . He achieved three top ten placings and in 1976 he finished third together with de Cadenet in a De-Cadenet- Lola T380 .
His only appearance in the Formula 1 world championship dates from 1971 . At the US Grand Prix , held on October 3, 1971 in Watkins Glen , he drove a Brabham BT33 - Cosworth of the Ecurie Evergreen. Craft, however, retired in the thirtieth round with damage to the suspension.
In 1991, Craft and Gordon Murray founded the Light Car Company , a company that produced a lightweight vehicle. The open, doorless body offered space for two people. Production ended in 1998. A total of 55 vehicles were built.
