Allan Maxwell "Gricey" Grice (born October 21, 1942 in Maitland ) is a former Australian racing driver and politician.

Racing career

Monopostor racing

Allan Grice is one of the most popular and successful Australian racing car drivers who achieved a number of successes in touring car racing . At the beginning of his career he competed in a few monopostor races . In 1966 he drove the Australian Grand Prix on an Elfin Mono Mk2B , but was unable to place. In 1972 he was overall sixth (master Larry Perkins ) in the Australian Formula 2 Championship .

Touring car sport

In 1974 he began touring car racing, where he became the key driver in Australian touring car racing and sport with silhouette vehicles over the next two decades . First as a privateer , later as a Holden works pilot, he won countless individual races and championships. He won the overall ranking of the Australian Sports Sedan Championship three times, in 1978, 1979 and 1984 . There were also overall victories in the Rothmans Sun-7 Series in 1976 on a Mazda RX-5 and third place in the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1976 .

Between 1968 and 2002 he competed 27 times in Bathurst 1000 , the most prestigious Australian touring car race. During his first outing in 1968 he drove a Fiat 124 Sport together with Bill Tuckey and finished the race in 19th place overall. The last time he was out in 2002 he only got one lap on a Ford Falcon , then the gearbox broke. He was able to win the endurance race twice . In 1986 he won with partner Graeme Bailey on a Holden VK Commodore SS Group A and in 1990 , again in the Commodore, with Win Percy .

He was also involved in the European Touring Car Championship , where he finished sixth overall in 1986 . He also raced in the NASCAR Winston Cup .

Sports car racing

In the mid-1980s, Grice competed in a number of sports car races , including twice in the Le Mans 24-hour race . 1986 Charles Ivy Racing's Porsche 956 failed with engine failure; Team partners were Alain de Cadenet and Chris Craft . In 1988 he had a works contract with Nissan Motorsports and drove the R88C with Mike Wilds and Win Percy to 14th place in the final ranking.

Politician

He was still politically active during his active career. From 1992 to 2001 he was a member of the Queensland Regional Parliament .
