Talladega 6 Hours 1979
The 1979 Talladega 6 Hours of Talladega , also known as the 6 Hours of Talladega, Alabama International Speedway , took place on April 1 at the Talladega Superspeedway and was the fourth round of this year 's World Sports Car Championship .
The race
In 1979, the World Challenge for endurance drivers was held for the second time in a row , including the endurance race in Talladega as in 1978 . In contrast to the previous year, the race was not advertised for Group 5 vehicles, but contested with touring cars . Four different AMC racing car models took up the first four places in the overall classification . The winners Tom Waugh and Rick Knoop drove an AMC Concord and won by lap ahead of Ralston Long and Charlie Cook in an AMC Gremlin . In third place overall, Joe Varde and Dave Cowart crossed the finish line on an AMC Spirit , one lap ahead of an AMC Pacer team.
