Rick knoop

Rick Knoop (born July 8, 1953 in Atherton ) is a former American racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Rick Knoop was primarily active in North American GT and sports car racing for almost three decades . His first race start at an important sports car event was the 1978 Daytona 24-hour race . The last time he was in the cockpit as a driver was the 2007 Watkins Glen 200-mile race . In between there was a large number of assignments in the IMSA-GTP series . He celebrated six class wins and won the Talladega 6-hour race in 1979 .

He competed twice in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 1978 he finished sixth overall with Jim Busby and Chris Cord in a Porsche 935/77 and celebrated a class victory. In 1984 he was 12th overall on a Lola T616 .

After the end of his professional career, Knoop drives historic Formula 1 races . His emergency vehicle is a 1979 Tyrrell 009 .
