Chris Cord

Chris Cord (born July 15, 1940 in Ketchum ) is a former American racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Chris Cord's grandfather was Errett Lobban Cord , the founder of Cord Corporation . The automobile manufacturers Auburn , Cord , Duesenberg and Lexington were among the more than 150 companies in the group .

Cord was active in US GT and sports car racing between 1975 and 1993 . He celebrated seven overall and five class wins in 122 races. He was victorious for the first time at the 1:30 hour race in Miami in 1984 , a race in the IMSA GTP series that year . His last overall win was at the Watkins Glen 500k race in 1988 . Partner in the Toyota Celica Turbo was Dennis Aase .

In 1987 he won the overall standings in the GTU class of the IMSA GTP series and in 1991 was third overall in the Daytona 24-hour race . Chris Card was a team member of All American Racers , Dan Gurney's racing team , for many years and came to Le Mans in 1978 for his only outing . Together with Jim Busby and Rick Knoop, he drove a Porsche 935/77 from Kremer Racing to sixth place in the overall standings and to class victory.
