Amos Johnson
Amos Johnson (born April 9, 1941 in Sampson County ) is a retired American automobile racing driver .
Career in motorsport
For many years, Amos Johnson was Roger Mandeville's team partner in the various racing versions of the Mazda RX-7 in sports car races in North America, and in the 1980s he was one of the most famous racing drivers in the IMSA GTP series . Four times in a row he finished the IMSA GTU or GTO class as third overall of the year. 1983 , behind Roger Mandeville and Jim Downing , 1984 behind Mandeville and Gene Felton , 1985 behind Jack Baldwin and Chris Cord and 1986 behind Tommy Kendall and Mandeville. In 1987 , 1988 and 1989 he finished second overall, with Butch Leitzinger in a Nissan 240SX coming closest to overall victory in 1989, 26 points behind . His greatest success in international motorsport was the overall victory in the 1981 6-hour race in Daytona , a race in the sports car world championship that year .
Once, at the Talladega 500 in 1969, he was also at a race in the NASCAR - Sprint Cup , which he finished 13th in the final standings.
