Sebring 12 hour race in 1990

The 38th Sebring 12-hour race , also The 38th Running of the 12 Hours of Sebring International Grand Prix of Endurance, Sebring International Raceway , took place on March 17, 1990 at the Sebring International Raceway and was the fourth round of the IMSA -GTP series this year.
Before the race
The IMSA GTP season traditionally began with the Daytona 24-hour race . Davy Jones , Jan Lammers and Andy Wallace won in a Jaguar XJR-12D . The following races in Miami were won by Geoff Brabham , Chip Robinson and Bob Earl ( Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo , Miami Grand Prix ) and Steve Millen ( Nissan 300ZX , 45-minute Miami race ).
The race
The rising costs of international sports car racing had an impact on the number of participants in the long-distance race of Sebring. Without the support of a vehicle manufacturer or wealthy sponsors, it was hardly possible to finance a season in the IMSA-GTP series. Only 49 teams started the race. Nevertheless, this Sebring race was one of the most exciting in its history. In the course of the 12 hours, six different vehicles were in the lead, which changed 19 times. For the first time at this event, the first three placed cars within the lead lap crossed the finish line.
As is so often the case at Sebring, this race was not decided until dark. In the end, Derek Daly and Bob Earl won more than a minute ahead of their teammates Chip Robinson and Geoff Brabham (since Daly also drove sections in this car, he was first and second on the podium). For Daly, who now lives in the USA and competed in a total of 48 Formula 1 races in the late 1970s and early 1980s , the victory at Sebring meant the greatest success in international motorsport to date.
