Career in motorsport

Bill Adam was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada with his parents in the 1950s. He lived in Oakville for many years . Although his parents had absolutely no interest in automobiles, he was already enthusiastic about vehicles as a teenager. A family friend took him to a sports car race in Mosport in 1961 ; it was there that Adam first came into contact with racing.

He has been in motorsport since the 1970s. In 1971 he received his first racing license and bought his first racing car, a Chevrolet Corvette . He first competed in amateur races and began a professional racing career in 1975. It made its first international appearance at the 6-hour race at Watkins Glen , a race in the 1975 World Sports Car Championship . Together with John Greenwood he was eighteenth overall. In 1980 he was a teammate of Bob Tullius in the Group 44 racing team and competed in the IMSA GTP series with the GTO Triumph TR8 . Some of these races were also part of the sports car world championship in the early 1980s . In 1981 he was tenth in the Sebring 12-hour race ; he retired at the 6-hour race in Mosport .

From 1983 the Group 44 race management started using Jaguar XJR-5 . In 1983, he and Tullius won the 500 km of Road Atlanta , the 3-hour race of Lime Rock and the 6-hour race of Mosport .

Adam entered the race once in the Le Mans 24-hour race. In 1980 he and his teammates Jacques Bienvenue and Douglas Rowe missed the race qualification. In 1987 he left the company prematurely as a partner of Scott Goodyear and Richard Spénard after an engine failure on the Porsche 962C .

Bill Adam competed in sports car races until 2004 and then retired from racing.
