Brands Hatch 6 Hours 1977
The 1977 Brands Hatch 6-hour race , also known as the Rivet Supply 6 Hours, Brands Hatch , took place on September 25 at Brands Hatch and was the 15th round of the World Sports Car Championship of that year.
The race
Rain was the spoilsport at the 6-hour race at Brands Hatch. It was a cloudy and rainy day of racing that only brought 7,000 spectators to the circuit. After an hour of racing, the rain had gotten so heavy that the entire track was under water. 15 minutes later the race management broke off. At this time led Jacky Ickx in the plant - Porsche 935 with already two laps ahead of Manfred Schurti in another 935. Sixth was Lella Lombardi in the fastest three-liter Porsche . For the new plant - BMW 320i Turbo , the race was already over. In practice, Ronnie Peterson was almost as fast in a BMW as Jacky Ickx in a Porsche. He was only 1 / 10th of a second behind the pole position time of 1: 26.250 minutes. In the race, Hans-Joachim Stuck dueled with Ickx in the Porsche for the lead before he went off the track at the Woodcote curve and had an accident.
After a two-hour break, the race was restarted on the now dry track. The results of the first part were completely deleted. With the exception of the accident-damaged factory BMW, all teams were able to compete. Again Jacky Ickx managed to quickly outrun the rest of the field. With his partner Jochen Mass , he achieved a safe overall victory with a lead over Schurti and Edgar Dören in another Porsche 935.
