Career

Eberhard Sindel started his racing career with Porsche racing cars in the mid-1960s . In 1968 he was able to achieve his first class win in the GT standings at the 500 km race in Imola in a Porsche 911 . He drove at various GT racing events until 1977 and was able to celebrate his first overall victories in a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 in the races on the Avus and in Ulm in 1973.

In 1968 and 1969 he took part in races in the German Automobile Circuit Championship (DARM). With the introduction of the German Racing Championship (DRM) and the German Automobile Circuit Cup , he started in both racing series with a Porsche 911 S in 1972. Until 1977 he drove with varying degrees of success in the 1st division of the DRM and in the German Automobile Touring Cup. From 1975 to 1977 he was able to record several victories with a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 and from 1976 with a Porsche 934 . In the DRM, he achieved fifth place in a Porsche 935 in the Super Sprint race at the Nürburgring in 1977 and his best result in the racing series.

From 1972 to 1976 Sindel competed in the European Championship for GT vehicles and in 1974 and 1975 also in the European Touring Car Championship . In the 1974 European GT Championship, he drove a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 in the 300 km race at the Nürburgring to 2nd place in the GT class and his best result in this racing series. In the 1975 European Touring Car Championship he and Edgar Dören achieved his best result in a race series with a GT class win and second place in the 4-hour race at the Salzburgring.

From 1969, with an interruption in 1970 and 1971 , Sindel drove endurance races in the sports car world championship until 1977 . There he took part in the Targa Florio in 1969 and 1972 with a Porsche 911 S, which he successfully finished in 1969 with Dieter Benz with 13th overall and third place in the GT classification. From 1973 to 1976 he drove only a few endurance races, mainly in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring . In 1977 and 1978 he started with various Porsche racing cars and in different teams in several races. At the 6-hour race at Brands Hatch in 1977, he drove with Günter Steckkönig in a Group 5 car to a 5th place and thus achieved his best overall placement in the Brands World Championship. His best brand world championship result was the GT class victory in 1978, which he won together with Preben Kristoffersen at the 6-hour race in Silverstone . Both were able to drive their Porsche 934 to 7th place overall in the race.

After the 1978 racing season, Sindel ended his racing career.
