1973 Daytona 24 hour race
The Daytona 24-hour race , also known as the 24 Hour of Daytona, Championship of Makes, Daytona International Speedway , took place on February 3 and 4, 1973 at Daytona International Speedway and was the first race for the World Sports Car Championship that year.
The race
For the first sports car world championship run of the season, the organizers received 64 reports. Finally, on the afternoon of February 3, 53 racing cars of the classes S 3.0, S 2.0, GT + 2.0, GT 2.0, T 5.0 and T 2.0 started the race. From the pole position went Derek Bell in the race. The Briton achieved a time of 1: 45.512 minutes on his fastest lap in practice on his Mirage M6 Ford .
After 24 hours of racing time, US racing drivers Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood were waved off as winners.
