1982 Daytona 24 hour race

The 20th Daytona 24 Hour Race , also the 20th Annual 24 Hour Pepsi Challenge, Daytona International Speedway , took place on January 30 and 31, 1982 at Daytona International Speedway and was the first IMSA GTP championship run of this Year.

The race

At the first IMSA GT championship run of the season, 79 racing cars in the GTP / GTX, GTO and GTU classes started the race on the afternoon of January 30th. From the pole position went Bobby Rahal in the race. The American achieved a time of 1: 43.891 minutes in training on his March 82G .

After 24 hours of racing time, the two Americans John Paul, Jr. and John Paul , as well as the German Rolf Stommelen were waved off as winners.
