Robert "Bobby" Woodward Rahal (born June 10, 1953 in Medina , Ohio , USA ) is a former American automobile racing driver , now co-owner of a team in the IndyCar Series and entrepreneur .

Career as a racing driver and racing team owner

Rahal in the 1986 Indianapolis 500

Rahal was three times the overall winner of the American cart series in his racing career , won a total of 24 races there and in 1978 competed in two races in Formula 1 for Walter Wolf Racing . In 1986, he won on a March - Cosworth , the 500-mile Indianapolis . When he won the overall cart series in 1992, he was the first driver to be co-owner of the team using the vehicle. Rahal was Formula 1 team boss at Jaguar Racing in the early 2000s . He is currently co-owner of the Rahal Letterman Racing team, which last competed in the IndyCar Series in 2008 .

Entrepreneur

Rahal now also operates the Rahal Automotive Group motor vehicle distributor . His son, Graham Rahal , is also a racing driver.
