The Eparchy Zahlé ( Latin Eparchia Mariamnensis Maronitarum , Arabic زحلة Zahla , DMG Zaḥla ) is a Maronite eparchy united with the Roman Catholic Church . Bishop of the eparchy of Zahlé is Joseph Mouawad .

history

The eparchy is located in the Bekaa plateau , in eastern Lebanon . The eparchy is headquartered in the city of the same name, Zahlé , which is the third largest city in Lebanon. The majority of the population are Lebanese Christians .

The eparchy arose from the territorial division of the eparchy of Baalbek-Deir El-Ahmar on June 9, 1990. The first bishop was Georges Skandar , who became emeritus on September 12, 2002 . His successor in the episcopate was Mansour Hobeika . After his death on October 28, 2014, Joseph Mouawad succeeded him on March 14, 2015.
