1983 Daytona 24 hour race

The 21st 24-hour race of Daytona , also the 21th Annual 24 Hour Pepsi Challenge, Daytona International Speedway , took place on February 5 and 6, 1983 at Daytona International Speedway and was the first IMSA GTP championship race of this Year.

The race

On the afternoon of February 5, 79 racing cars in the GTP, GTO and GTU classes started the first IMSA GT championship run of the season. From the pole position went bob wollek into the race. The Frenchman achieved a time of 1: 42.155 minutes in practice on his Porsche 935 .

After 24 hours of racing, the two Americans Preston Henn and AJ Foyt , as well as the French Bob Wollek and Claude Ballot-Léna were waved off as winners.
