Giuseppe Carl "Joe" Castellano (born October 16, 1937 in Decameré ) is an American medic and racing car driver who also has Italian citizenship.

Career in motorsport

Joe Castellano's career in motorsport was divided into two parts. The first phase lasted from 1976 to 1983. In 2007 he made a comeback, this time with an Italian driver's license. His first international race was the 1976 Daytona 24-hour race , which he contested with Terry Wolters and Charles Gano in a Chevrolet Corvette . He reached the 57th place in the final ranking. Until the end of the 1970s, he mainly competed in the Daytona 24-hour race and the Sebring 12-hour race .

He had his most successful racing year in 1982. In addition to his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and appearances in the World Sports Car Championship , he contested a full season in the British Formula 1 Championship . Castellano drove an Ensign N180 there , won the second Karibik Airways Trophy of the year and finished third overall behind Jim Crawford and Tony Trimmer . After the 1000 km race at Silverstone in 1983 , the first part of the career ended.

In 2007, Castellano returned to the racetracks at the age of 70. He started in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and in 2014, at the age of 77, was third overall in the CN class of the Italian Prototype Championship .
