Estoril 2:30 hour race in 1977
The 2:30 hour race of Estoril 1977 , also Prémio International da Costa do Sol, Estoril , took place on July 10th at the Circuito do Estoril and was the tenth round of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
In July 1977, a race was held in Portugal for the first time in the history of the World Sports Car Championship . Although only nine vehicles were registered, 50,000 spectators came to the track on race day. To see they got the superiority of the plant - Alfa Romeo T33 / SC / 12 , who celebrated a triple victory. Arturo Merzario won ahead of Vittorio Brambilla . The two Italians were allowed to drive freely until the last refueling stop, then the order was determined by the team management. At the end of the race, all three Alfa Romeos drove the third car, Giorgio Francia and Spartaco Dini , three laps behind, across the finish line at the same time. Merzario's lead over Brambilla was only 1/10 of a second.
