Ernesto Soto

Ernesto Soto (* 1943 ; † 1995 ) was a Venezuelan racing car driver .

Career

The Venezuela-born Ernesto Soto should not be confused with the Argentinian rally driver of the same name, born in 1954, who died in 2007. Soto began motorsport in Venezuela in the 1960s on a DKW and later switched to the Ford , Vau , Atlantic and 2 monoposto formulas .

In the United States, it became known in 1978. The 24 Hours of Daytona this year he had originally eleventh overall finished as while a Porsche 911 won the GTU class. After the race, the vehicle owner refused the technical control, which led to immediate disqualification. The background was an illegal engine that was too large. In the 1980s, he regularly competed in the IMSA GTP series . His best overall ranking was fifth in the 1982 Daytona 24-hour race . Once, in 1980 , he was registered for the 24-hour race at Le Mans and finished this event in 21st place in the final classification.

He died in a car accident in 1995.
