action

The film is about the Italian fashion designer and company founder Gianni Versace , whose career is outstanding. When Gianni Versace was shot dead in front of his villa “Casa Casuarina” in Miami at the age of 50 , his two siblings Donatella and Santo had to take over the management of the company. Donatella has been using drugs since then and is on the verge of bankruptcy . With the help of her relatives, she is admitted to a rehabilitation center and comes back clean and healthy. She leads the company to one of the most influential fashion brands in the world.

Reception and response

Filmstarts.de awarded three out of five possible evaluation units for the film. New York Times critic Jon Caramanica was negative about the film, noting that "any video from an original Versace show represents the charm better than this film does [...]" ("brief videos that captured the runway scene feel like more." truthful and complete representations of Versace's charms than does this film […] ”) Laura Fries from Variety.com described the film as“ a typically melodramatic TV film ”.

Donatella Versace herself was critical of the film adaptation. "Versace did not authorize the TV film about Ms. Versace, nor was the company involved in it in any way," said Versace in British Vogue . A Versace spokesman continued, "Since Versace also did not approve the book on which the film is based, the film should be considered pure fiction."
