Joseph Greger
Joseph "Sepp" Greger (born February 4, 1915 in Scheyern ; † August 2, 2010 in Dachau ) was a German racing driver who was active in motorsport well into old age.
Career
Greger began with motorsport as a grass track and off-road driver with motorcycles before the Second World War . In 1950 he started as a sports car driver in a VW and from 1952 on a Porsche . As the owner of several car dealerships in Munich and Dachau, he always remained a private driver. He drove the Mille Miglia and numerous rallies . Above all, he was a long-distance driver, but still loved hill climbing above all else. In 1968 he won the European Hill Climb Championship in the sports car category in a Porsche 906 , followed by an overall victory in the GT division in 1969 with a Porsche 911 and in the touring car category in 1973. It was not until he was 75 years old and after having participated in around 1200 races that he finally retired from active sport.
Greger also became known as the long-standing successful organizer of the Greger Racing Show in the Munich Olympic Hall.
Honors
In recognition of his services to motorsport, he was the recipient of the Silver Laurel Leaf, the highest sporting award in the Federal Republic of Germany, and holder of the ONS Cup from 1969. The ADAC awarded him the Golden Sports Badge with diamonds.
Sepp Greger was married and had two sons. He celebrated his 90th birthday in relatively good health. In 2005 he was awarded the Bavarian Sports Prize in the category "Sporting Lifetime Achievement".
