1000 km race in Buenos Aires 1957
The fourth 1000 km race of Buenos Aires , also Buenos Aires 1000 Kilometers, Circuito de la Costanera Norte de al Ciudad Buenos Aires , took place on January 20, 1957 on the Circuito de la Costanera Norte and was the first race of the sports car World Championship this year.
The race
The first race of the world championship took place on a stretch of freeway near Buenos Aires . The route, not unlike the AVUS near Berlin, was found to be less demanding by the drivers. The season-long duel between the factory teams of Maserati and Ferrari began with the first race . In training, the Maserati 450S proved to be superior to the Ferrari factory car. So it was hardly surprising for the audience that Stirling Moss drove up and away from the rest of the field from the start of the race. Shortly after Juan Manuel Fangio took over the car from Moss, the car broke down after a clutch damage. The victory went to the private Ferrari 290MM owned by Masten Gregory , Eugenio Castellotti and Luigi Musso .
