William Ronald "Ron" Flockhart (born June 16, 1923 in Edinburgh , † April 12, 1962 near Melbourne , Australia ) was a British racing driver and driver.
Career
Ron Flockhart began his motorsport career with motorcycle races before he initially competed in smaller car races in Great Britain at ERAs . From 1954 to 1960 he competed in a number of Formula 1 races, mostly on BRM , and now and then on other brands such as Connaught - Alta or Cooper . The highlight of his Formula 1 career was third place in the 1956 Italian Grand Prix . Unequal successful he was at sports car races, in 1956 and 1957 he was able to Jaguar , the 24-hour race at Le Mans decide for themselves.
In 1961 he switched to aviation, where he tried to break the record for the solo flight from Australia to Great Britain. While training for a second record flight, he crashed his plane near Melbourne and had a fatal accident.
