Bruce Halford (born May 18, 1931 Hampton-in-Arden , † December 2, 2001 in Churston Ferrers ) was a British racing driver .

Career

Without much racing experience, Halford only contested a few Formula Junior races on a Cooper - Bristol , the Briton made his Formula 1 World Championship debut at his home race at Silverstone in 1956 . The Maserati 250F , with which he retired in the race after an engine failure, was once driven by the Thai Prince Bira . With the Maserati Halford also drove in 1957 and 1958 seater -race before it the aged formula car into a Lister - Jaguar exchanged to go with this national sports car racing in the UK. He also competed several times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans .

In 1959, Halford returned to single-seat racing cars and came third in the Silver City Trophy in Snetterton on a factory BRM . Despite eight starts he did not find a permanent place in Formula 1, and so he ended his active career in the mid-1960s.

When racing for historic racing cars became popular in the late 1970s, Halford returned to racing with his private Lotus 16 and was a welcome guest at these events until a few years before his death in 2001.
