Andreas Dung-Lac

Andreas Dung-Lac ( Anrê Trần An Dũng Lạc , * around 1785 ; † December 21, 1839 in Hanoi ) was a Vietnamese priest and martyr . He and his companions are venerated as saints in the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Born as Dung An Trân in the North Vietnamese province of Bắc Ninh , Andreas Dung-Lac came to Hanoi with his parents around 1797 and was raised there as a Christian . After serving as a catechist for three years , he studied theology and was ordained a priest in 1823 . In the course of the persecution of Christians under Emperor Minh Mạng , he was first arrested in 1835, but was ransomed through a ransom from his community. He changed his name to avoid persecution.
He was arrested again on December 10, 1839, released on payment, and then captured a third time. He was beheaded on December 21, 1839 together with St. Peter Thi (Van Truong Pham) . Andreas Dung-Lac was beatified in 1900 and canonized on June 19, 1988 . Remembrance day on November 24th , along with 116 other martyrs from Vietnam , is an obligatory day of remembrance .
