1954 Buenos Aires 1000 km race
The first 1000 km race in Buenos Aires , also Buenos Aires 1000 Kilometers, Autódromo Municipal y Avenida General Paz , took place on January 24, 1954 at the Autódromo Juan y Oscar Alfredo Gálvez and was the first race of the sports car world championship of that year .
The race
At the very first major sports car race of the year, the Ferrari and Maserati factory teams met . Both teams were represented in the race with one car each. Ferrari with a 375 Plus that was driven by Giuseppe Farina and young Umberto Maglioli . Emilio Giletti and Luigi Musso drove the factory Maserati . Another factory team came from Italy with OSCA . France was represented by Gordini and Great Britain by Aston Martin and the Ecurie Ecosse. A German team also started the long journey to Buenos Aires . Borgward reported a Hansa 1500RS which was driven by Hans-Hugo Hartmann and Adolf Brudes .
In the race, the works Ferrari won ahead of the privately registered 250MM from Alfonso de Portago and Harry Schell , as well as the Aston Martin DB3 from Peter Collins and Pat Griffith .
