Pat Griffith

Pat Griffith (born April 26, 1925 - January 28, 1980 ) was a British automobile racing driver .

Career

Pat Griffith was active as a sports car racing driver in the 1950s and was a works driver for Aston Martin . After first races in club races in Great Britain and starts in British sports car races, Aston Martin's first international outing was the 1952 Mille Miglia . On an Aston Martin DB2 , he was unable to finish the race as a partner of George Abecassis after a retirement.

1953 was the most successful year in Pat Griffith's career. After a second overall place in the nine-hour race at Goodwood , beaten only by the Aston Martin teammates Reg Parnell and Eric Thompson , he won together with Peter Collins (who was his teammate in Goodwood) result in the World Sportscar Championship in 1953 scoring RAC Tourist Trophy on an Aston Martin DB3S .

His career ended in 1954 after a serious accident at the Hyères 12-hour race . After the family-owned tool company was sold to the British cement and construction group Turner & Nepal, he joined the company at the end of his career and later became a member of the board. He died of cancer in 1980.
