from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1000 km race in Buenos Aires was a sports car long-distance race that was held nine times between 1954 and 1972 and was part of the sports car world championship during this time .

The event

In addition to the 1955 Venezuela Grand Prix , the 1000 km race in Buenos Aires was the second sports car race to be held in South America that was part of the world championship. After the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1953 , the 1000 km race in Buenos Aires in 1954 was only the second long-distance race in motorsport history to cover the 1000 km distance. Seven races took place at the Autódromo Juan y Oscar Alfredo Gálvez . Exceptions were the years 1955 and 1957, when the races were held on the Autódromo Municipal-Avenida Paz and on the Costanera circuit .

First winners were 1954 Giuseppe Farina and Umberto Maglioli on a plant - Ferrari 375 Plus . The last 1000 km race in the Argentine capital was won in 1972 by Ronnie Peterson and Tim Schenken . They also drove a factory Ferrari with the 312PB .
