Boris Robert "Bob" Said junior (born May 5, 1932 in New York City , † March 24, 2002 in Los Angeles ) was an American automobile racing and bobsleigh driver .

Career

Bob Said, the son of Syrian-Russian immigrants, was the first American to win a car race in Europe after World War II . Said, who had already achieved some success in sports car races in the USA, won the 1953 circuit race in Rouen on an OSCA . In 1954 he became a works driver at Ferrari . The Scuderia only used it at sports car events. He finished second at the Bari Grand Prix and the Trullo d'Oro.

After two years of absence, which he spent speculating on the stock market, he returned to the racetracks in 1957 and won his class at the Nassau race. Again he drove a Ferrari sports car. In 1959, he contested for Connaught to the US Grand Prix in Sebring . Said drove the C Type and was eliminated after a spin on the first lap. Said drove car races until the end of 1962, but the events in which he participated became smaller and smaller. In 1963 he borrowed $ 2,600 to speculate again. In two years he had made over a million dollars and was a made man.

In his spare time, Said looked for a new job. He became a bobsledder and took part in the 1968 and 1972 Winter Olympics. In 1968 he finished 10th in the four-man bobsleigh, in 1972 in 14th place in the four-man and 19th in the two-man bobsleigh.

In the 1990s, Said Jr. began producing several independent films. His son Boris Said III followed in his father's footsteps and is a well-known NASCAR pilot in the USA .
