Connaught Type C

The Connaught Type C was a Formula 1 racing car that was used in 1959.

Before the C-Type reached racing maturity at Connaught , a lack of financial resources forced the British team to give up. British racing driver Paul Emery took over the half-finished vehicle and finished it.

The C-Type was a lightweight car made of a tubular space frame, revised De-Dion axle and rear internal brakes. The front suspension and the Alta engine were taken over by Emery from the B-Type . The body was also adopted from the previous model.

The car had its first and only Grand Prix race at the 1959 US Grand Prix in Sebring . The hopelessly inferior car was driven by the American Bob Said , who had to park the C-Type after a spin on the first lap.

The car was revised, got a turbocharged Offenhauser engine and was seen during the pre-qualification in Indianapolis in 1962 . Emery could not qualify the car. The vehicle still takes part in racing events for historic racing vehicles on European racetracks.
